Mondeo “mans” up!

Among the many striking concept cars at the Frankfurt Motor Show was the very impressive Ford Evos concept. Studying the car carefully you could be forgiven for thinking this was a new concept Used Renault Sussex car for BMW, Audi or any or the other major players but it looks nothing like a Ford!

The car is very low and nearly as wide as a Lamborghini Aventador. The “face” of the car has a very prominent grill flanked with laser cut headlights giving Ford a more upmarket styling. Its bold, sporty and most definitely makes an aggressive statement for the future of Ford.

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Ford clearly stated that the Evos was not heading for production but it would offer a taste of what is to come in Ford’s near future. And it seems that the recently “spied” Ford Mondeo is definitely a descendant of the Evos. Whilst it may not have gull wing doors, the overall restyling is very close to the appearance of the Evos.

The new Mondeo has the same aggressive face as the Evos and the headlights are practically identical. I have always thought the Mondeo was a rather mundane car but after viewing some of the new spy shots, I am rather excited.

There are a number of highly efficient engines expected to be available including a 2.0 litre petrol engine with an electric motor. The engine will be able to offer up to 500 miles in between fill ups and zero emissions range of around 50 miles! Impressed? You will be. Unfortunately the new Mondeo is not expected until March 2013!
